Love Fellowship Church History
The Love Fellowship Church of God in Christ started its journey in January 1991 after Elder Samuel Butler accepted his call to pastor. Love Fellowship’s former location, “1409 Seminary in Oakland, CA” was remodeled and prepared for opening with the help of Superintendent John A. Jennings and the members of McGluten Temple Church. On March 10, 1991 Love Fellowship’s doors were opened and the church was dedicated. Many souls were saved and blessed.
In 1995 after much prayer and fasting, Pastor Butler moved the church to “851 Santa Clara Ave., Alameda, CA”. The building was in need of much work and God sent the help we needed through Pastor Darnell Thomas of Sacramento, his father Pastor Thomas of Oroville, and Brother Dennis Huddat of Berkeley. After making this building ready for the work of the Lord the doors of the church opened on March 9, 1995.
At 851 Santa Clara, the work of the ministry expanded. We were able to minister in the word and in song at one of the local convalescent homes. We were assisted by Safeway Stores to provide turkeys and other food items during the holiday season. The church was not only a blessing to the community, but also to the membership. God then blessed us to purchase a van to be able to provide transportation for families on the Alameda Naval Base to join us in service.
In 2006 the Love Fellowship website was established to reach souls beyond Alameda. Sister Jane Kohner has put every message that was recorded at Love Fellowship on our website.
In 2011 the pastor was lead to move the church to share a building with Calvary Christian Center located at 1516 Grand Street in Alameda. While at this spacious location we were able to expand our food program and increase our outreach on the Alameda Naval Base.
The first Monday in March of 2014 the Lord blessed us to start women’s Bible Study at Alameda Point.
In June 2014, God opened the door for us to lease the current building at 190 W. Trident Avenue here on the Alameda Naval Base where we have the opportunity to expand our outreach ministry.
Many people have been blessed as a result of our being in Alameda. Love Fellowship has endeavored to be a help in this community and to the members of our church. We have been assisted by various organizations in continuing our food and clothing giveaways. Our missions department has been very active in visiting convalescent homes weekly, helping the homeless, giving food and clothing to assist with immediate needs, and providing temporary shelter.
Our goal is to help everyone. We have certainly come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord, trusting in His Holy Word, and He has never failed us. Keep us in your prayers as we continue to do God’s work and reach out to a dying world to win souls for Christ.
